NEWS WINTER 2012

London, Paris, New York & New Jersey on The Bowery!

A Night of New Music and Friends Friday, February 3, 2012 @ The Bowery Electric.

On Friday, February 3, 2012, three distinctive music combos come together to present an evening of original live music, featuring songs from their current and upcoming releases. With varied musical influences, Dennis Diken with Bell Sound, Edward Rogers & The Biba Crowd and Marni Rice & Le Garage Cabaret, promise a night of variety with varied international influences -- from Paris to London to Jersey and New York.

Dennis Diken with Bell Sound: (10 p.m.) Their 2009 CD “Late Music” contains the big beat and harmonious fruit of a collaboration between Smithereens drummer Diken and longtime friend and fellow-New Jerseyan Pete DiBella. NPR’s Ken Tucker on Fresh Air said Late Music“”¦features some awfully pretty music that echoes the past while sounding new and fresh and vibrant”¦it's as though (Diken’s) writing impeccable sonnets with his drums and his singing” and Fred Mills of Blurt Magazine called it “a 10 star album.” Bell Sound is comprised of Diken - drums, vocals (Smithereens), Chris Bolger -guitar, vocals (R. Stevie Moore), Dave Amels - keyboards, percussion, vocals (Reigning Sound/Jay Vons/Mary Weiss), Michael Jodry - guitars, vocals (R. Stevie Moore/The Ravens),Steve Gaechter - keyboards, vocals ( Chris Butler, Dan Markell) and Peter Stuart Kohman - bass, vocals (Blues Magoos/Beau Brummels/Mark Lindsay).www.dennisdiken.com

Edward Rogers & The Biba Crowd: (9 p.m.) “Porcelain,” Rogers’ fourth solo album, has been receiving rave reviews since it’s November 2011 release and has landed on several ”˜Best Of 2011’ lists. Blurt online, said “Without a doubt one of the most delightful surprises to land on the BLURT office stereo of late.” The UK’s The Word Magazine featured the first single, “The Biba Crowd” on it’s November ”˜Now Hear This’ CD and said, "From album Porcelain New Yorker Rogers lived his first 12 years of his life in Birmingham, which seems to have lent wry humour to his music - specifically this wondrous piece of elegiac glam rock. It's a kind of musical equivalent to Jonathan Coe's The Rotter's Club." The eleven songs on Porcelain were all penned by Rogers. They add another dynamic chapter to Rogers' body of work and represent somewhat of a departure in style - both musically and lyrically, revealing his edgier side with echoes of the softer side shown on his past recordings. Rogers’ group, The Biba Crowd includes Rogers (lead vocals), Don Piper (guitar, backing vocals), James Mastro (guitar), Sal Maida (bass), Pete Kennedy (guitar/keyboards), Don Fleming (guitar) and Dennis Diken (drums).www.edwardrogersmusic.com

Marni Rice & Le Garage Cabaret: (8 p.m.) Marni Rice is a Chanteuse-Accordionist and Theater Artist who has been performing internationally with her solo play, "Tales from Paris/Contes de Paris" a mixture of storytelling, music & song which has toured to France,Japan and Central Africa, with more festivals planned for Africa in 2012. In New York has contributed accordion and back round vocals to local downtown project, Mad Juana with whom she toured US & Europe. With original songs in French & English, Le Garage Cabaret was formed with Marni Rice - Vocals, Accordion,& songwriting, Daniel Rey- Guitarist/Producer (Ramones/Ronnie Spector/Martinets) Michele Temple- Bass (Dave Thomas/Pere Ubu) and Dennis Diken- Drums (Smithereens).
